John Kirk is a retired engineer living in the Pacific Northwest. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, John's serial fascinations with numerical data and picture books began at an early age. The commuter trains that traveled up and down the San Francisco Peninsula and the wallet-size schedule that described their movements were an early obsession.

During his youth, baseball was the most popular game in town, and he spent years of his adolescence and early adulthood studying the history of the game and its statistics, despite the fact he never played organized baseball.

Until the introduction of the MP3 file and iTunes Music, sports had always been John's primary interest. His true passion as a young man was basketball, which he was able to play at the collegiate level while graduating with a degree in electrical engineering.

Perhaps this early interest in statistics enhanced his facility with mathematics, but he found pleasure in working on his writing skills and documenting the work more than the engineering itself.

Over the past nineteen years, John has been refining his list of recommended music on a near-daily basis, a research project that significantly influenced his musical preferences.

John has been married to his wife Cheryl for more than 30 years, and they live near her two children and two grandchildren.
